RE: Public Relations Grants for 2009-10

Enclosed is an application for the NWOEA Public Relations Grant to be used for either Professional Development or Public Relations of the local.  Grants up to $500 will be evaluated individually by the NWOEA Public Relations Committee until a total of $8,000 has been awarded.  Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.  Please be as detailed and descriptive as possible.  The application deadline is Friday, November 6, 2009.  Locals will receive notification of grant application approval within two weeks of the application deadline.

The requirements for receiving grant funding are as follows

  1. Each local must have elected delegate(s) to the Fall 2009 Ohio Education Association Representative Assembly (OEA RA), the Spring 2010 OEA RA, and the Spring 2010 NWOEA RA.  These delegates must be present and voting at these three assemblies.

  2. Each local must show evidence of a successful OEA Fund for Children and Public Education drive for the 2009-10 school year.  A successful FCPE drive will be defined in 2009-2010 as 7% of the membership of a local contributing to a FCPE drive and for each year thereafter the amount shall be increased by 1% until the state average is achieved.  When the state average is achieved, the amount will not decrease below that level.  Not more than 1% per year increase will be required as the state average increases.

  3. Attendance at three Representative Assemblies and at two of the following:  Any NWOEA workshop, the NWOEA Awards Banquet, or any other NWOEA special event is required.  NWOEA events known at this time for 2009-2010 are as follows:  August 11 – Treasurers Training/Local Leaders Training, September 29 – NWOEA Fall Workshop, and March 2 – Awards Banquet.  Watch the NWOEA website (www.nwoea.org) for additional events that may occur.

  4. Documentation of the project with pictures, a write-up in the form of a news article, and receipts must be submitted to the Public Relations Committee within 30 days after the completion of the grant project.  Documentation must cover the original project as approved by the NWOEA PR Committee.  If your local did not complete its 2008-2009 grant project within the 2008-2009 school year in which the grant was awarded, a letter must be written giving the date you intend to complete the project.  This letter of intent must be received by November 6, 2009 (the letter should be sent to the NWOEA Office), if your local wants to be eligible for grant money in the 2009-2010 school year.  If the above documentation requirements are not met, the local will be ineligible for a Public Relations Grant for one year.

  5. Student scholarship programs will not be considered.

Locals who have fulfilled the above requirements to be eligible for PR Grant money will be notified prior to the Spring OEA Representative Assembly.  All grant money will be issued at the Spring OEA Representative Assembly or mailed following the Representative Assembly at the discretion of the Public Relations Chair or designee.
