Public Relations Grant Reports
The Sylvania Education Association used the NWOEA Public Relations Grant to promote their local association and increase member engagement by organizing a night at a Toledo Walleyes hockey game. Teachers and their family members were offered tickets at a discounted rate, supplemented by the NWOEA PR Grant.
This is the second year in a row that Sylvania EA organized this event, and just as last year, the event was a huge success!
Close to 100 Sylvania EA members and their families attended. This included many members who have not been engaged in Association activities in the past, as well as many early career educators.
The Sylvania Education Association received great PR from the event. On multiple occasions, they were recognized by the Public Address Announcer, and their organization was featured on the scoreboard.
Middle school social studies teacher, Aaron Joplin, organized the event again this year. He worked with the Walleye group sales office, publicized the event with members, and coordinated the money collection and distribution of tickets. Thanks, Aaron, for your work and dedication to the association!

Elmwood Education Association Purchases T-shirt for Members
At the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, the Elmwood Education Association (EEA) applied for the Northwestern Ohio Education Association (NWOEA) PR Grant in order to help pay a portion of the cost for t-shirts for all members. The NWOEA offers grants of up to $500 annually to locals on a first come first basis.
The EEA has applied for the NWOEA PR grant for the past three years. Heidi Meyer, EEA president, says that the grant is a great opportunity to incentivize local associations to try something new. This year the EEA Executive Team decided to use the grant money to assist in the purchase of t-shirts to help create solidarity within their membership and to allow the local to be more visible in the school and community.
Meyer states that using this grant to purchase t-shirts for the members, “...is helping us create a sense of community and camaraderie within our membership.” On Thursday, December 21, the Executive Team asked all members to wear their new EEA shirts, snap a picture of themselves, and post to their Facebook page in order to win a prize. An impressive 52 members participated in this event!

WLS Kindergartners Receive Books
The Teachers Association of Washington Local Schools (TAWLS) has provided a winter inspired book to each of the 553 Washington Local kindergartners. This project was funded by TAWLS members in combination with a grant received from the Northwestern Ohio Education Association (NWOEA). TAWLS is committed to providing early literacy opportunities for our students and hopes to expand this initiative for the 2019-2020 school year.
